The Plesz guide to the next Federal election

One definition of the difference between Liberal and Conservative (in Canada):

Conservative: Makes mistakes but would rather die than admit them. Often obfuscates the facts that point to the glaring errors before they show the mistakes being made.

Liberal: Makes mistakes just as often but with a willingness to change, adapt to new data and correct the course to fit with the new information as needed, often to the point of being accused of waffling on issues.

So the question for the next election really is: Do you want people firm enough to follow their decisions through to the end, no matter how ridiculous they turn out to be, or would you rather people who make mistakes, but have a willingness to change direction once those mistakes are pointed out?

Gee, what's with Karl these days? That's 2 political posts in one day...

Ignatieff said the other day that he wanted to scrap the new jet fighter program just because by the time they are delivered in 2015 we will not be at war in Afghanistan then. Sounds very much like Chrétien in 1993 cancelling the EH-101 helicopters that cost Canadians over 24% more to cancel the contracts than to take delivery of the helicopters… that we needed… 15 years ago.

Just saying...

It's so easy to criticize those that are in power.

@Anonymous: It is very easy indeed. And vital.

@Gord: Yeah, I hear ya. I think Ignatieff is trying to appease the voters who are suffering the sticker shock of the program. For the record, I am a Liberal who favours the F-35 purchase. The only issue I have with the F-35 is that we're not considering it because it's best value for the money. We're considering it because all of our partners are.
