The fail whale visits post-break-in

  • Calgary man's home security alarm goes off.
  • Security company calls guy at work to say his home alarm was going off.
  • They send a guard to check it out, a service Beach pays extra for.
  • Guy races home and finds guard's report in mailbox saying his home is secure.
  • Guy opens front door, sees back door wide open, alarm ripped off wall and flat screen TV missing.
  • Security company claims guard could not view back of house because of snow drift.
  • Neither thief nor police have any trouble entering back of house.
  • Security company points 'finger of blame' to company sub-contracted to provide guard service.
This writer wonders how many people will cancel their contracts with said company, having lost all faith that it does its job as contracted to. This writer also wonders how many people with said company pull their sign from their home, which is essentially now an advertisement: "Rob from this house! The security guard won't bother to check it out after."

No one wants to take responsibility here and the guard service doesn't want to even comment probably thinking it will make them look bad; but by not saying anything at all, you look worse.
