A fairly well to do New Zealander took all of his money out of one of the nation's bigger banks after they denied him a mortgage because he doesn't make a guaranteed income (he's an artist - but a very successful one). He made the withdrawal a bit annoying by demanding the money all in 20's (all $190,000 of it) and then he deposited his money in a local community credit union. He said after 25 years as a loyal customer who never missed a payment if they wouldn't lend him the money he needed, it was time to switch banks.
"If you don't support the community, the community won't support you."
