A friend was painting his kitchen and kept noticing almost imperceptible light spots on the wall near the island where he was painting. He gave the area another coat of paint, but the lightness persisted. He decided to let it dry more thoroughly before making another assessment of the situation and moved on to paint other parts of the wall.
When his wife got home and asked how things were going, he reported that things were going fairly well except for a couple of stubborn spots on the wall where the paint wouldn't take. She took a look at the wall, looked at the island, looked back at the wall, looked at him, reached over and moved the spice rack from the island to another counter and the light spots disappeared. Light had been reflecting off of the metal spice containers and projecting ever so lightly on the wall where he had been painting.
