The lava flows no more.....

Darlene and I were having breakfast at a Ricky's close to our place. This is one of our least favourite places to eat because the proprietor runs the place quite badly. Why do we go? Desperation mostly - most other places have huge lineups after a certain time and some days we just wanna get some grub in our bellies.

Anyway, the proprietor seems to take a lot of shortcuts in an effort to save money. Like not hiring enough staff. Or leaving decorations up for seasonal promotions all year. Stuff like that. But the economic frugality that really had me smiling was their giant lava lamp at the bar. I'm guessing that in an effort to save money, all the incandescent bulbs in the place were replaced by fluorescent ones. A great idea, by the way - except in your standard lava lamp - which depends on heat for proper operation. Why did I suspect that there was a fluorescent bulb in the lava lamp? Because the blob of lava has cemented into the exact same mutant alien fetus shape for months now. It is lit - so the only explanation is either they've put in a lower wattage bulb - or it's a fluorescent bulb. It's all I can do not to go up to the proprietor and say, "Listen - if you're not going to use that thing like it was intended, just let me take it off your hands and put it to real use, OK?"
