Things I learned lately - 27 May

  • In the US, popular girl's names in many states include Olivia, Emma, Ava and Sophia. Some states are alone in their most popular name. SD - Harper. FL - Isabella. DC - Genesis. NM & HI - Mia.
  • On 8 May 2016, on a particularly sunny and windy day, the 57.8 gigawatts of electricity that Germany was using was being produced by 95% renewable energy. Solar power met 45.2%, wind 36%, biomass 8.9% and hydro 4.8% of the total. Power prices actually went negative for several hours.
  • Six states that allow marijuana, use legal tests to determine impaired (on marijuana) driving, that have no scientific basis.
  • Cosmetic limb-lengthening surgery is a booming business in India. People typically try to add 2-3 inches to their original height to do better with their careers and marriage prospects.
  • Tom Petty mentions in a documentary that his life was changed on seeing the Beatles on TV in 1964. Little did he know he'd be playing with 2 of them later in life (George and Ringo).
  • You can only upgrade to Windows 10 for free until 30 July. After that, it's a $120 upgrade unless you buy a new computer.
  • The speed limit on interstate highways in Montana, Idaho, Utah is now 80 mph (130 km/h)
