Consumer 1 Fat Cats 0

A battle that never should have had to take place at all (thank you DMCA for opening the consumer up to this kind of abuse), has finally ended in favour of the innocent consumer.

Remember that YouTube video of the toddler dancing to a Prince tune? Remember how UMG issued a take-down notice because the clip supposedly infringed on Prince's copyright? Even though it clearly fell into the realm of fair use? Well, it went to court and the mother who uploaded the video won the lawsuit.

This is big news, but it once again highlights the fact that the American DMCA is a pro-entertainment industry law that does nothing to protect the rights of consumers (this fight took two and a half years in court to win). Boo! Canada better not try to adopt this kind of bullshit, because I will put up a stink.

Here's the latest on the story.
