I try not to traffic in assumption

Based on some news stories I've read recently and the ensuing physical and online discussions that have resulted, I believe it may be time to address some tempting, but incorrect assumptions.

Just because winter still exists is not proof that climate change is a hoax.

Just because Toyota has recalled a large number of vehicles doesn't mean domestic vehicles are miraculously better than foreign vehicles. This is a classic example of 'selective memory'.

Just because a Canadian military commander is suspected of heinous crimes doesn't mean the military is suddenly riddled with criminals and psychopaths.

On that note, just because organizations screen their workers doesn't mean all people with latent criminal or psychotic tendencies will be discovered.

Just because a gym offers you a 'lifetime' membership doesn't mean that someday down the road they'll change their mind, render your membership null and void to increase revenue.

Just because the New Orleans Saints won the Superbowl doesn't mean that New Orleans - the city is all fixed and everything's OK post-Katrina.

Just because Statistics Canada reports that unemployment figures are down means that all those people found jobs. You cease to be included in EI statistics once your benefits run out.

Just because I read your blog everyday, doesn't mean I'll leave a comment. :)
