I have an idea for a new web site. I’m not the first person to think about this, but as of now, I think this service is only available in the US.
Anyway, PlateBook or Platester (.com already taken) or whatever you want to call it, would be a messaging service to send messages to people by their license plate number. So if someone cut you off, you could send them a nasty-gram. “To the driver with Alberta plate SDB071: That little stick thingy that hangs out the left side of your steering column. It’s called a turn signal. Learn to use it.” They would only know to read it if they knew the site exists of course, so for many message senders, it might simply be an exercise in ‘getting it off your chest’ until word got out. But for people who know of the service, they could look up their license plate and see if anyone has left them a message. This could be handy for parents who let their kids use their vehicle to see if anyone’s complaining about their driving.
The more I thought about this, the more I then began to think that this could also be a good app idea for iPhone. Once you download the app, you enter your plate number and register it against your Facebook account, or an email address, or a phone number for text message capabilities. Then, any time someone sends you a message by plate number, you are notified via your chosen service method. You could even set it up so that you send the message from a certain plate number if you were hoping for a response. “To the driver with Alberta plate BRUN8: Who does your hair?”
