So I’m driving to work this morning and I can see a large truck stopped at an angle just before an intersection of a major highway, as if they were waiting their turn to switch lanes from a set of double turn lanes into the left-most straight through lane. I slow down to let them continue on their way, as the light had already changed to red, but they weren’t moving. So, I cautiously steered around them and stopped at the light. I look over and the driver is out. Eyes closed and mouth agape.
So I’m thinking, holy crap, is this guy unconscious. I get out of the car (it’s a long light) and walk over and knock on the window. He stirs. I say to him, “Are you OK?” He obviously has just fallen asleep at the wheel. After a few seconds, he apologizes and I tell him I just wanted to make sure that he was OK. I tell him, “Dude, you’re right in the middle of the road, you need to pull over. Get some coffee.” He thanks me and we both go on our way.
It appears that he took my advice as I saw him peel off at the next exit into a residential area.
