If some had their way, there'd be no copying your CDs to your iPod

The public (mostly meaning 'invitation only') consultation on copyright in Canada is concluded, but the government is making public more submissions from various stakeholders. This week, word got out what the Access Copyright group submitted to the government regarding their position on copyright reform. The details are scary:

"Access Copyright came out as opposing the right to record TV shows at home, and the right to "format shift" your media (such as loading a CD on your MP3 player, or putting an old ebook on a new reader or a phone). They also say that almost all commercial use, no matter how trivial, should require a license and not fall under fair dealing."

I feel it's important for Canadians to know this because if copyright law reform ends up being bad for consumers, they need to know what factors may have contributed to the change.
