Weaning off of gasoline

Norway has proposed a ban on selling any new gas-only cars starting in 2015. Any cars sold in Norway from then on would have to be able to run at least partially on electricity or another alternative fuel. Hybrids and biofuel-compatible cars would be allowed. The announcement has opposition, but realistically the ban isn't quite as radical as it sounds. Gas-fueled cars would still be around, it's just that new models would need to accept alternative means of fuel.

It's unlikely that the proposal will be adopted because of the opposition from many cabinet members.
