Congratulations to the Tsuu T'ina First Nation, which exercised their right and voted against a plan to build the southwest section of the Calgary ring road through their land. 60% voted against the ring road crossing Nation land.
There goes 60 years of negotiations down the drain. It's too bad this decision couldn't have been made 10 or 20 years ago. Now we'll waste another 10 years trying to come up with an alternative route. We should have a southwest section of the ring road by 2030 at this rate.
Oh yeah.... as the alternatives are explored, expect a rise in NIMBY cries to begin.

I guess it's time to delay access into their Casino then, Ring road first access to the Casino a long time after that

A few years ago, I came up with the idea that the casino's approval from the province should have hinged on the Tsuu T'ina's agreement to allowing the ring road through their land. Also, the casino should never have been put directly opposite Lakeview (nobody there wanted it), but should have been built near the proposed ring road alignment. That way, the casino could have had prime access to the new road and it would have motivated them to get the ball rolling (or cancel outright) much faster.
