Someone took a 1992 Honda Civic CX with over 350,000 miles (560,000km) on it and using about $400 worth of material, turned it into an aerodynamic wonder that would make some concept cars blush. If what this hobbyist is reporting is true, the car gets 95mpg at 65mph (2.5l/100km at 102km/h), which beats the Prius by a long shot. Imagine being able to go 1287km (800 miles) on $38 in gas (Canadian prices).
"The wind load I now have at 80 mph is close to what I used to have at 60 mph. Wind noise is practically non-existent. It's a joy to drive on the highway since it doesn't feel any wind load at normal highway speeds and loses speed MUCH more gradually than a normal car when coasting."
Now of course it looks rough, but it's a home-made job. What I want to know is - if someone can make this with material bought at a hardware store, why can't car manufacturers make this for us now?
