One of the things that always struck me as illogically inefficient about our society is our obsession with possessions. I'm not against owning things - something useful or even the odd luxury item, but I do find that there is a lot of waste when every household owns a circular saw, a complete set of tools, a power drill, and so on. This isn't limited to tools either. We have evolved as a society to the point where every household amasses items to the point of complete self-sufficiency, whether they can afford to or not. Neighbours could be sharing DVDs, music, lawnmowers, borrowing a cup of sugar instead of burning gas to make a one-item-trip to the grocery store....
Luckily, some people have figured this out and begun a movement to take us back in the opposite direction with web sites like BorrowMe.com. As they put it:
"More than a marketplace (think eBay for borrowing meets Facebook) ... BorrowMe is a movement for change in the way we live and shop. We're here in response to the consumerism of the past - and its effect on people and planet."
Check out the video. Their goal is to motivate everyone to share out at least one item to friends. I don't think that's a hard goal to achieve. I've done it. So can you. What item do you have sitting around collecting dust that others might want to borrow?
This is beyond awesome.

So weird that you posted this. I was just thinking the same thing this weekend, about power washers and big ladders and stuff. In our little neighbourhood, we could all chip in to buy oneand share it. Why do we all need one, that sits in the garage 360 days a year?? Heidi
It's a revolution I tells ya!
