Frozen doesn't have to mean yucky

I could have sworn I had blogged about a secret soup we buy, but I guess that's what happens when your brain lives in multiple realities. Anyway, Darlene and I love our French Onion soup and we would ordinarily scoff at trying some 'frozen' soup like the kind they sell at M&M Meat Shoppes, but on the insistence of the salesperson a few years back, we tried it. It's bloody amazing. Rich, beefy - we add more of our own cheese when we bake it (you can never have enough cheese), but it's good stuff. On our last trip to this store, we spotted some other frozen goodies and decided to give them a try too. Namely - chicken noodle soup and home-style oatmeal. Yeah - frozen.

The chicken noodle soup is not your typical soup. First off, it's got cheese on top. Isn't that bizarre? Not that the cheese takes anything away from the soup. But the most interesting thing you'll notice about it is that it almost has the consistency of stew. There's not a lot of broth, but a load of noodles and chicken. I give it a thumbs up. If you're in the mood for a thick, hearty chicken noodle stew errr soup, you should too.

The oatmeal comes in the same frozen, round, double-thick puck as the soups, but gets heated in the microwave, not the oven. It only takes a total of 3.5 minutes to heat it from frozen, then one minute of sit time, which I found a little hard to believe. Well - believe it. Pretty decent home-style oatmeal - ready to eat if you like your oatmeal lightly sweetened. I added an extra tablespoon of brown sugar for fun. Certainly tastes better than that instant stuff you get out of the pouch.

Funny, I just picked up a bunch of those French Onion soups yesterday! We love them too, along with a little extra cheese.
