A Calgary invention

Something I just learned today about Calgary.

The Caesar cocktail was invented here. Seriously.

It was made up by bartender Walter Chell at the Owl's Nest Bar in the Calgary Inn, which is now the Calgary Westin Hotel.

A Caesar is basically a Bloody Mary, but made with Clamato juice instead of regular tomato juice. I've been told it's mainly popular in Canada only. Can anyone dispute that? Is the Caesar enjoyed in other parts of the world?

I don't know about whether it's popular elsewhere, but now that I know the Bloody Mary has no clam broth...I am much more likely to try one. Clam juice...ew. H

Whenever I travel to the States and ask for a Caesar I get a blank look.
