I got a charge out of this

Finally, a government demanding something useful. The European Commission plans to force cell phone makers to create one charger for all cell phones. The primary reason for this demand is to reduce the amount of electrical waste in Europe. Typically users have to buy a new charger every time they buy a new cell phone.

This is a great idea whose time has come. There are enough standard connectors out there that achieving this goal shouldn't be difficult. No matter what voltage the phone needs, with a common connector, a charger could be created that adapts to the phones' needs.
