Montréal, prête-moi ton vélo

This spring, Montreal will be launching a new service - a bicycle taxi or Bixi for short. They will build 300 bike stations roughly 3-5 blocks apart (for phase one). During phase one, 3000 bikes will be deployed. Memberships start at $5 for one day plus usage. Annual membership is $78. You can rent your bike by half hour increments or a full day. Usage fees start at free! Yes, a member can borrow a bike for 30 minutes or less for no money. This encourages quick use and fast return. An hour will cost you $1.50. You can return the bike to any station, so one way trips are possible. Users will be able to visit the Website to check out station locations and bike availability in real time.

The stations are green too, operating on solar power.
