A stirling revival?

Dean Kamen, is the inventor of the iBot mobility device, a portable dialysis machine and other medical devices, the Luke arm and of course his most known invention, the Segway.

But his latest project could revolutionize the car - if it comes to fruition. It's an electric car that is a hybrid of sorts, in that it gets recharged as it runs by a stirling engine. Dean claims:

"A Stirling-electric hybrid can travel farther and more efficiently than conventional electric cars; it generates enough power to run energy-hungry devices such as heaters and defrosters that are essential for drivers who..... must cope with a cold climate; and even using petrol, the engine runs far cleaner than petrol-electric hybrids such as Toyota's Prius."
