Hotel temperature controls suck

I'm staying in a hotel with a seriously messed up climatization system. (Yes.... I know climatization isn't a proper word Google - stop drawing red underlines beneath it)

There's a sign on the desk that says, "We are currently undergoing repairs to our guestroom air conditioning. To access cooling temperature, your thermostat should be adjusted to request 'warm' instead of 'cool'." (Ahhhhh...... the old reverse psychology trick....) Then you look at the thermostat and it says, "Cool - turn dial to right. Warm - turn dial to left." What the hell does that mean? As in "turn the bottom of the dial?" And of course, there is no visible indicator of what you're dialing up.

I just don't get it. There is cool air coming out of the vent, so maybe I should just shut up and go to work......

This isn't the worst hotel thermostat I've used either. Now they have these newfangled ones that display the room temperature and when you try to turn the temperature setting down, it flashes the dialed setting, then stubbornly looks like it has reset itself back to the original temperature. These coded (context - encrypted) systems don't come with manuals in the room either.

Annoying.
