While gas prices were beginning to soar, they were secretly building a car at Volkswagen whose goal was to burn a miserly 1 litre of gas per 100 kilometres travelled (235mpg). Yeah.
Using carbon fibre in the body, they didn't expect it to even be feasible until 2012. Seems that's changed. The car has a one cylinder SDI (diesel) engine is 0.3l. It weighs 1/3 that of a Toyota Echo. It could be ready in 2010 for limited sales.
