Better and free..... what a concept

411 can kiss my directory ass - istance now that a wonderful Google service has made its way into Canada. I'm talking about Google 411, which has been in the US for a while and not long ago made its way into the Great White North.

This service is awesome. Dial 1-800-GOOG411 and a computerized (but very human-sounding) voice answers and asks what city and province, then the name of the business or category (no residential listings - don't ask me why). Everything you say is repeated back to you (presumably to allow you the chance to correct before continuing). Then it tells you how many listings there are and lists them by number. Once you hear the listing you're interested in, you simply interrupt by speaking the number in the list. You're then given choices of either Google dialling the number for you, or asking for details on the listing, including address. Google will even text message you the details if you'd like..... right to your (cell) phone. I used it a few times in the last few weeks and I am thrilled with it.

The price? Free.
