The internet has made it possible to do so many things that were not possible just a couple of decades ago. Fortunately, one of them is calling people out who do bad things to other people. A friend told me about 3 different stories, which you can read about on your own if you have the time. But I'll summarize them for brevity in case you don't.
a) Rare imported Japanese car is taken on a 'permanent' test drive. Owner posts details on forum. Forum members sight, then find car. Owner gets car back, along with thief's belongings. Thief's belongings get auctioned on eBay for posterity.
b) Young kid does a hit and run. Photographer catches event on camera. Pictures show driver's face, damage done and license plate number. Posted on forum. Kid caught.
c) Guy tries to sell Mercedes rims to 2 people on the same forum then doesn't ship the items. Claims shipping company lost the rims but refuses to refund even though he supposedly took out insurance. Complete with fake phone numbers, tracking data, proof of other scammings, an explanation of how the scam works........ the web of lies spins out of control. But the forum members uncover tremendous amounts of information on the scammer. Poor sucker!
