The CD is 25 years old today. When the CD was first on the drawing board, the player parts necessary to play them didn't even exist yet. I recall reading about how CD technology worked back in the day and I was fascinated - it truly was a marvel of technology. The original plan was for the CD to hold at least 60 minutes of music, but that was increased to 74 to accommodate the Beethoven's 9th Symphony. The spiral track on a CD is almost 5km long.
When I sold my share of my DJ business to my partner around 1988, I dumped all my vinyl too and replaced my album collection with CDs. The first CD I bought? Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, naturally.
