Don't bite off more than you can chew....

A postal worker in Calgary was attacked and bitten quite badly by a pair of dogs (part mastiff) this week. The dogs' owner defended herself, saying that she needed the dogs to feel safe in her home and that the postal worker must have spooked the dogs. The dogs were not tied up, nor were they licensed. I am not against any breed of dog - even the nastier breeds can be trained not to attack. The bottom line is that you have to take responsibility for your pets. If they are prone to attacking people on your property, they are in essence an uncontrolled weapon. A lot of people don't understand that in Canada, you do NOT have the right to unleash (figuratively or otherwise) a weapon on someone, even if they are trespassing on your property.

I am amazed at the attitude of dog owners like this. As it is, the owner is going to get some hefty fines, perhaps lose the dogs and likely will not have mail delivered to their home again. I hope it was worth it.

Pit Bulls are controversial in the States too. One of the other blogs I read, the writer had a terrifying experience with a pit bull that jumped in her van when she had her child in her arms. Pit bulls should be outlawed. Most of their owners are morons anyway.

I personally don't care for them.
