When does roasted mean nuked?

It's bad enough that even the boutique restaurants (that's what I call a place whose servers look as pretty or prettier than the food) are stooping to preparing almost all of their meals in advance and just warming them up. But when I order a roast chicken off the menu, I expect two things. I expect the chicken to be hot and I expect the skin to be crispy. While dining at Moxie's at Market Mall tonight, I got neither. When my meal arrived, I wondered where the skin was at all, because all I saw was white. So, I'm thinking - oh well, no crispy skin for me. Well, I was right about the crispy, but the skin was there - it was just transparent. That indicates to me that the chicken spent a grand total of zero minutes in any kind of oven - more likely it got nuked.

When I complained, their solution - more time in the microwave. Well, at least it was hot the second time around. But it certainly wasn't tasty. Booo!

Blech. They should not have advertised it as roasted if it was nuked.

The reason I stopped going out to restaurants is because of overpriced, low quality, and mostly unhealthy food. These days, there are very few establishments that employ knowledgable, trained people that actually know anything about cooking. You're paying top dollar for a meal prepared by some pimple-faced teenager who's idea of cooking is zapping a pizza pop in the microwave. The quality just isn't there. A lot of restaurants smoother everything with cheese or sauces in order to add flavour because they don't know any other way. Also, 9 out of 10 items on most menus are too high in fat, salt and calories. Do what I do...learn to love your own cooking. You'll have the control of what goes into it, it won't cost nearly as much and you will be healthier and richer. If you like roasted chicken and you don't have the time, pick one up at Safeway for $7. You can use the leftovers for healthy wraps the next day.

Yeah, I know all about the Safeway BBQ chickens. We partake quite often. And I have to say, I do enjoy cooking. We just happen to enjoy eating out a lot too - it's a good way to get both of us fed fast and easy, as Darlene and I really don't like a lot of the same foods.

I also have to say that while I am fairly picky about the quality of the food I eat, I do have access to a lot of restaurants that serve quality food. Moxie's just pissed me off last night is all.

Yeah, I've been pissed off one too many times. I've learned my lesson.
