It’s been twelve years since Kate Bush released an album, so it was with great anticipation that I discovered she had a new one out. It is called Aerial.
I started listening to this album and realized it was going to be a tough listen. The lead track King of the Mountain did nothing for me, so I was a little worried. But then I heard Mrs. Bartolozzi. It starts off sounding like Phil Collin's Against all Odds, but don't worry. This song is very suggestive. You really have to listen to the lyrics in these pieces of music – Kate is a great story teller. I like the melody – it’s very reminiscent of her earlier works - and only Kate could build a song out of doing housework and the laundry.
This two disc CD has a wide assortment of music styles – from rockers to ballads. There are some nice surprises – the title track Aerial has a great hypnotic pace, reminiscent of the older tune Cloudbusting. Sunset has a nice jazzy feel to it.
I want to like this album, but it’s going to take a while to grow on me. But I really dig the cover. You know what that is right? It's a sound waveform.......

I used to love Kate Bush. I had a British penfriend in college that sent me some Kate Bush tapes. Haven't listened to her in years though.
You found it to be a tough listen, really? That's very interesting. I didn't find it tough at all, but each to their own.
Do continue to listen to it, it's quite a masterpiece. And watch the way "Joanni" becomes more and more enjoyable with each hearing...
And you're absolutely right when you say that people really need to listen to the lyrics of a Kate Bush song. They are equally as important as the music itself.
