Is this the next phase in hybrid cars?
GM has a design on a very electric hybrid car called the Chevrolet Volt. It's plugs in, but it's a hybrid car in that it still has a gas engine, but it's a small one (a turbocharged, 1.0L, 3 cylinder engine that only acts as a generator when needed). GM claims that if you intend to drive this puppy 40 miles or less (64 km) per day, the gas engine should not even come on. It recharges in about 6 hours. The engine is designed to extend your range anywhere from the original 40 (gas-less) miles to 640 miles (1000 km). The concept is extremely efficient and brings us one step closer to the fully electric car without worrying too much about where the next charging station is. If you're wondering when we'll see this car or what it will cost - nobody knows the answer to that yet.

Hey Karl,
SAAB came out with this concept car (working) a little over a year ago.

GM owns SAAB so I don;t know about you but the design is much like this new car.
