Darlene and I went to see a movie last night for free, courtesy of American Express (or was it Air Miles? - I have to ask her again). Anyway, the coupon we received was good for one free movie for two, a pair of regular soft drinks and a regular popcorn, at any Cineplex Odeon theatre.
The tough part was not knowing which theatres were part of the Odeon chain. I finally realized that the Sunridge Spectrum was a part of said chain and we headed off in that direction. Meanwhile, I wanted to know when Casino Royale was playing so we called for the listings. Only the listings were from a week ago. The recorded message said (I'm not making this up), "For this week's listings, visit our web site". Yeah, that's helpful when you're already en route.
Unfortunately, last week's listing were no longer valid (go figure), so we could not see Casino Royale. Instead, we opted for Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. OK - message to Denzel: You may want to be careful not to set a record for an actor playing a cop-like role. Deja Vu was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. I have no idea what Vil Kilmer was doing in that movie, his role was mediocre.
Oh, yeah - and it was free! Well, actually it was 52 cents for the butter. They didn't mention that the coupon wasn't good for the butter. But they made sure to offer it. I'm surprised the movie theatres haven't put coin operated doors on the stalls. Ooops - I guess I better shut up now, eh?

Yep, I try to avoid going to the big chains, and patronize the little art houses whenever possible instead (Uptown, Globe, etc.) They charge a reasonable admission, and don't try to rape you at the concession stand. Did you know the Uptown has a bar upstairs now? Yea!
