Where was Health Canada when they were PMQs?

Black Bear Crossing is a group of homes in the Tsuu T'ina nation land that used to be part of Canadian Forces Base Calgary - specifically, Harvey Barracks. The homes were Private Married Quarters (PMQs) for military personnel when the base still existed (until 1998). It has come to light in the last few days that the homes contain dangerous asbestos. After a fire in one of the units, Health Canada revealed possible asbestos contamination in several of the homes. They were all declared unfit for human habitation and the residents had to leave.

Funny how the whole time they were used by soldiers and their families, they seemed fit to live in...... but I digress.

In a slightly related story, homes in Lincoln Park (another area of PMQs in Calgary now being transformed into modern luxury homes) that were fit for military until 2000 were completely gutted and renovated for low income housing use by the City of Calgary. Good enough for the troops, but not good enough for poor people............... nice.
