Almost a year ago, I mentioned a new place that Darlene and I tried called Merle's Deli in Kensington. I have noticed, however, that I failed to ever tell you about the place I mentioned 'now had some serious competition' - Cafe Metro.
Cafe Metro is a rather spacious cafe on Macleod Trail at 73Ave SE in a strip mall. I would have told you to watch out for the strip mall with the green awning, but they recently redecorated and it looks totally different now. Anyway - the cafe...... The inside looks like a Montreal neighbourhood, with clothes hanging on clotheslines, store and home facades painted on the walls..... it's quite nice. But we go there for the Montreal smoked meat sandwiches. They are this close [holding fingers barely apart] to the kind you'd get in Montreal. They don't sell home cut french fries (who does these days), but they do have latkes and some tasty coleslaw. For a guy who doesn't get home to Montreal often enough, it's a temporary fix.
