Bad driving habits I'm tired of

  • Those who cut across 3 lanes of traffic at the last minute to get to their exit.
  • People who suffer from 'front of the line' syndrome. You know - the ones who have to speed, weave and cut in front of anyone who happens to be in front of them.
  • Folks who are clueless about how dangerous it is to change lanes in the middle of an intersection.
  • All who speed through playground and school zones.
  • Drivers who don't signal or signal after the indication has become irrelevant.
  • Anyone who smokes, eats, talks on their cell phone, wears a hoodie (up), or applies their makeup - especially all at the same time.
  • (update - by request) People who are driving slower than the main traffic flow, but choose to remain in the leftmost lane.

I am guilty of pacing myself with the car next to me if I see someone from behind passing everyone. I call it "f@#%king with people". I am hanging my head in shame. I can't seem to stop, I I I need intervention.....

I've been known to do that.

Yesterday I was confronted with one of the "front of the line" guys. He was behind me, saw an opening in front of me (which I purposely left there as a buffer - with an impending speed change from 90km/h to 50km/h looming) and gosh darned it if he didn't floor it, pass me and zip right into that spot. So I flashed my beams at him. Darlene freaked, "What did you do that for?!" She's afraid that some neanderthal testosterone junkie is going to get out and confront us.

Yesterday I was driving down the Deerfoot (my local freeway), and some moron was "F@#$ing with people." Except I don't think I can credit him for deliberate conscious thought. He was tooling along below the speed-limit in the far left lane. So to pass him, people would have to swing out two lanes (to get around the delivery truck in the middle lane). Is it any wonder we have road rage? Please add "clueless drivers in the fast lane" to your list.

Alberta has got to have the worst drivers outside of the third world. I was watching "The Long Way 'Round" last night - two guys ride all the way around the world on motorcycles. The only two accidents they had were here. One were some kid in a pick-up truck actually rear-ended them on the highway between Edmonton & Calgary. He should have been dead. And another were a guy making a right turn pushed his way past them while they were stopped at a red light and knocked one of their bikes over. I'm ashamed to be a Calgary driver.

Karl, I wouldn't worry about provoking anybody here by flashing your high beams. From my experience, most drivers here rarely look in their rear-view mirror. When they do, it's probably to complain that the guy behind them is too close.

SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD MOVE OVER!

Grrr.
