Unintended consequences.........?

Yesterday marked the day the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) was dropped from 7% to 6% across Canada. Yay! Right?

The problem is, now I can no longer calculate what the server in a restaurant should get as a tip based on the GST amount. At 7%, all I really had to do was double the GST amount and add a little for good measure, which would be close to 15%. But doubling 6% only makes 12% and adding a little won't cut it anymore.

[grumble] Stupid government...................[end grumble]

So.................. I vote we add a new field to the bill at restaurants - the total times 15%. This will make it easier for us to see how much an appropriate tip would be. It would also make it so the server can see what they would have gotten if the service was up to par............

Just triple it... (18%), then shave off a little.

Or don't shave off any, and your serving folks will LOVE you the next time you go in.
