Bye bye Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader is a good example of bloatware. Bloatware is software that is way too bloated with stuff you'll probably never use, or bloated with inefficient code. Some people call it 'features'. I don't regard Firefox (or any browser for that matter) coughing up a hairball after viewing pdf files as a feature.

Wean yourself off the bloat - uninstall Adobe Acrobat and get a slim, trim reader like Foxit.

Hey Karl, Just a heads up. I've been testing foxit reader over the last several months, With my users as guinea pigs to see if it can be everything you need without the adobe bloat. I'm sad to say that for someone who relys alot on pdfs in a productivity environment is better off sticking with adobe reader. Foxit is however, excellent for the regular user who opens a pdf now and then just out of necessity.

Would you mind sharing what issues you ran across - in case my readers are curious what things to watch out for?

The first and foremost issue we found is somewhat trivial, but there is some toolbar buttons missing that many people rely on as they have become quite accustomed to the convenience of them. (Can't think of what they are right now) Also, we noticed that some pdfs would crash before opening with an error message, and yet open just fine in adobe reader. Lastly, we found some pdfs that (strangely enough) would open and yet appear to be written in some other language. Not sure what it was, but it looked like russian or hebrew. Definetley minimal issues, but something to think about for someone deploying it in a support setting, as I had many times where I had to uninstall it and reinstall adobe reader for users.
