I just realized that there is another benefit to owning a PVR (a PVR is a VCR that uses a hard drive instead of tapes), one that I have not been taking full advantage of. I'm speaking of recording movies from the movie channel. This is a practise that I would have avoided with my old VCR, simply because of the crappy quality (EP) I would have had to choose to capture a whole movie. But with the hard drive, I no longer have that limitation. So if / once you have a PVR, turn on your cable box, scroll through the 3+ movie channels and see if that movie you've been wanting to rent is playing overnight and set it up to record. That way, it won't interfere with anything you planned on watching while you're awake. Tomorrow, you'll wake up to a movie - ready to watch.
