Our government is missing the point

Scott Brison, one of the leadership hopefulls in the federal Liberal party, made a bold statement when he indicated he would reverse the cut in the GST if elected. Not a very popular thing to declare, but he does make a point about the economy in our country. Brison says a GST cut only benefits Canadians who are already spending a lot of money, but it does little for people can't afford to buy much. He goes on to say that the current system encourages people to stay on social assistance. The Liberals support an income tax cut as opposed to the Tories' GST cut.

I have a more base observation to make. Any cut to any tax indicates that a government has too much money and/or that everything is OK. If that is so, then why is our infrastructure in such bad shape? Why are there long waits for surgery? Why is it damned near impossible to get a family doctor? Why do parents have to raise money so their kids can go on school field trips? I say that before taxes are cut, it's time to spend money on programs that suffered cutbacks during the lean 90s.

I heard the other day that all the provinces that have a sales tax are raising them 1% on July 1. so Albertans will be the only ones with a cut.
