I knew it was just a matter of time before hybrid technology seeped into the world of scooters. Vespa is introducing (looks like Europe only - for now) 2 models of gas - electric hybrids, the LX50 and the bigger Piaggio X8. Not only do these scooters benefit from a boost in efficiency and power from the electric motor, you can choose a low-speed all electric mode for cruising through places where gas engines aren't allowed. The batteries can charge from the gas engine or be plugged into 220V to recharge in 3 hours. This is a nice trend that I hope continues.
