Stereotypes are an unfortunate, but funny phenomenon. Take this case, where 11,000 students ages 11-15 were asked for their take on scientists.
Around 70% of those questioned said they did not picture scientists as "normal young and attractive men and women". Among those who said they would not like to be scientists, reasons included: "Because you would constantly be depressed and tired and not have time for family", and "because they all wear big glasses and white coats and I am female".
I have a scientist living next door. He's a young lad who works at the University. His hair still looks normal and I guess they haven't issued him the obligatory big glasses.........
That's because he hasn't been blinded by science yet (reference to Mr T. Dolby).
