During the election campaign here in Canada, things can get pretty personal.
Two Nova Scotia candidates (Peter MacKay, Conservative and Alexa McDonough, NDP) were having it out on a radio show. During the on-air duelling, Mr. MacKay suggested of Ms. McDonough: ". . . I think you better stick to your knitting and win your own riding." The barb was tame enough, but in the Maritimes the phrase stick to your knitting is apparently just another way of saying mind your own business. That's good ol' Canadian mud-slinging, folks. It doesn't get any harsher than this.
