Yet another reason I'm glad I was born in Canada:
In some American states, a pharmacist has the right to refuse to fill a prescription on moral grounds. This means you could go to your pharmacy and the pharmacist could refuse to fill your birth control prescription because they don't believe in it. But it goes further than that. Some states have enacted a sweeping statute that went into effect in July that allows health care providers to not participate in procedures that go against their conscience. So theoretically, if you are a doctor and also a practising Jehovah's Witness, you could say no to offering a patient a blood transfusion.
Is this wild or what?
