If cable companies and TV networks were like radio stations:

You'd get all your programming for free. Advertising would pay so that you got all content for free.

You wouldn't even pay for upgrades to the system.

If you weren't making enough revenue, you change something to improve things. Change your format, add better programming....

People wouldn't be forced to subscribe to stations they didn't like just to access the ones they do.

So... why doesn't Calgary have any worthwhile radio stations? I prefer to drive to work in silence because I can never find anything good!

Liken it to OTA TV to Radio, and Cable TV to Satellite Radio. The former are free, the latter are not...

Yeah, I've more or less given up on Calgary (commercial) radio. I typically plug my iPhone into my car stereo now for music. Mind you, CJSW, CKUA and CBC Radio 2 still have their moments.
