You know what they say.... warm lighting, warm heart...

Wanting to do my part to reduce my carbon footprint on the world, our household has been making the switch to compact fluorescent bulb lighting, replacing incandescent bulbs where possible.

The latest room to get the efficiency treatment was the den. The problem is, Darlene has never been cool (no pun intended) with compact fluorescent lights' cool white light colour. So when we got home from the hardware store with a pack of 'Daylight' bulbs, which operate at a colour temperature of about 6500K, she hated them. The light is very white and very harsh. So we trekked back to the store and got a different model of bulb (Marathon by Philip's) which produces a warmer 3500K colour temperature light. Much better. This means we're clear to get more as bulbs burn out in other ceiling fixtures. The problem is finding colour temperature data on the packaging. Sometimes it's there.... sometimes not.

So if you're starting to switch to compact fluorescent bulbs, consider the kind of light the bulbs produce. If you get the wrong kind..... you could be stuck with them for 7 years!
