The American government is (of course) trying to put a good spin on the situation in Iraq, claiming that people are safer now, have freedoms they never had before and so on. If you want a taste of what it's really like, just read this report from NPR's JJ Sutherland.
Interestingly, this is not how I foresaw the Iraq events unfolding. I actually imagined a situation where the US achieved their end game much sooner, pulled out, at which point Iran essentially walked in (with Iraq's army in shambles) and took over, much to the US's surprise.
